OLD BUSINESS:
Clean up day was successful on May 6th with the only exception being the amount of trash on Protection Ave.
Battle of Plattsburgh "Participation" letter is expected to go out to merchants. It will encourage merchants to dress and/or decorate in the period as well as offer discounts to people who have the BOP buttons.
The Summer Art Series schedule is set. The moncy pledged is currently at $2,300 with the goal still set at $5,000. The deadline for seeking corporate sponsorships is May 31st. After which, the downtown merchants will be solicited for donations.
Beautification committee is delaying the start of their activities. The plantings will begin just after the college has ended the semester.
Treasurer's report: $600 has been received so far towards the Summer Art Series. The bank balance as of 4/30/06 was $1,370. Two memberships have been received. $200 was paid to Boire Design for the website.
NEW BUSINESS:
Nomination of Officers: Chris presented a list of nominations for officers as our year ends. Proposed were Suzette Nephew for treasurer, Tom Lavin for Vice President, Nate Ball for Secretary. Nate declined the nomination. Chris said he would speak to a couple of others for Secretary. Voting had to be delayed until the June meeting.
Insurance: Rod spoke with Booth Insuring about insurance for the PDA and its officers. It was suggested that the PDA speak with the Community Development Office about being put on the city's policy. It would be less expensive for the PDA to pay the additional rather than purchase an individual policy.
The Farmer's Market is slated to open for the season on Sat. May 13th. They will have Surrey Rides and Wood turning dcmonstrations. Pam Miller reported tlut they have 22 season vendors with only one spot remaining. They still don't have a food vendor.
Dana Isabella from Reality Check spoke next. She explained what Reality Check is about, how it is funded and what its goals are. They mainly educate youth as to how the Tobacco industry markets to them. The events they hold are determined by what the youth suggest - for example, the skateboard park event and the recent Community Prom. She said the Community Prom was very successful with over 125 attending. They had 40 adult chaperones who volunteered. They also had no alcohol issues. The only problem they had faced was with advertising.
Spruce up for Spring Campaign - Linda Hill of the beautification committee spoke about their efforts. She said a letter should be going out soon regarding how merchants can participate.
Summer Art Series was discussed. The schedule is set with a benefit for the Strand restoration fund to open the series on July 22nd at NCCCA from 5:00 pm to 6:45 pm. Roy Hurd will be the featured artist at this event. Other artist.s to appear at subsequent concerts (at Westelcom stage) will be: Too Tall String Band, Geezer Reunion, Flashback, Lucid, Rick Davies Jazz, Saxophone Quartet and Crossing North. Chris said that each band will be paid $250 and that Adiriondack Regional Theatre will be getting $2,000. They will be putting on two plays - Cinderella and The Fantasticks. He said that there will be a playbill which advertising proceeds will be split between PDA and l\RT
Chris announced that PDA will adopt a new meeting day. Starting in June, the PDA meetings will be held each 2nd Thursday of the month at 8:30 a.m. Several people were having conflicts with the Wed. time and felt it was time to change the day.
